Thoraco-abdominal aneurysm, preoperative model.
By valchanov
This is a preoperative model of thoraco-abdominal aneurysm, Crawford typle I, with rupture above the diaphragm. The subsequent haemorrhagia in the mediastinum closed temporary the rupture, probably saving the life of the patient. This was an impossible operation, which took 7 hours and the team of the best cardio-thoracic surgeons in Bulgaria. I don't know how, but the patient is still alive and kicking. It took me 3 days to make the model and to turn it into a 3d visualization and I'll share my workflow with you. I'm printing the model right now for a cardio-thoracic surgery symposium.
The source is Angio CT scan with 1,3 mm slide thickness.
1. I analysed the model in Radiant Dicom viewer (you can activate trial license for unlimited amount of times, if you can't afford 100 euro for it). I selected the best series and exported them in a folder.
2. I loaded the model in 3D Slicer. First, I run two denoising algoritms (Gradient Anisotropic Diffusion and Curvature Anisotropic Diffusion), which improved the quality of the images significantly. Then I selected a ROI, which included the whole aorta. With the Segment Editor Module I segmented the lumen of the aorta. Then, as a separate segmentation, I used the Margin operation to grow the lumen with 2 centimeters and applied a boolean operation, resulting in a hollow shell with precise lumen. I had to segment the rest of the aortic wall manually. I exported the result as STL file.
3. In Meshmixer, I modeled the whole thing, until I was satisfied by the result.
4. My client asked me to remove the aortic arch (it's such a pain, I love aortic arches) and to print the aneurysmal sac with the abdominal aorta and the bifurcation of the iliac arteries. Note the double renal artery. I divided the model into two parts and installed ports for two 8x2mm and two 5x2 mm neodymium magnets with tolerance of 0,250mm. The final preprint version is on picture 3.
5. I'm printing this model with 1,5mm slide thickness, 4 perimeters, 15% gyroid infill, custom support with support enforcers, using red Natural PLA from a local manufacturer. The whole printing will take 45 hours.

Aortic arch with bicarotid trunk anomaly, 3d printing version
By valchanov
This is a 3d printing version of my "Aortic arch with bicarotid trunk anomaly" 3d model. It's hollow and with proper supports, it can become a decent 3d printed model with 0,2mm or lesser layer thickness.

Aortic Arch, type III elongation
By valchanov
This is 3d model of aortic arch with type III elongation (according to Madhwal classification). I made it from MRI set, which I obtained from Osirix dicom library, Felix set. It's part of a anatomical series of aortic arch anomalies and it's for clinical anatomy teaching purposes.

3d model of aorta and aortic vessel tree (from real patient)
By micamaca
This is a 3D model of aorta and aortic vessel tree extracted from real CTA patient image.
In addition to 3d models in .dae, .mtl, .obj, .ply, .stl files, original CTA image as well as an annotation, obtained using 3D slicer, from which 3d models are extracted is provided.
CTA scan covers the ascending aorta, the aortic arch and its branches into the head/neck area, the thoracic aorta, the abdominal aorta and the lower abdominal aorta with the iliac arteries branching into the legs.
The 3D model includes aorta and aortic vessel tree.

porcelain aorta
porcelain aorta, ct with contrast, scan, dicom, axial, thorax, heart, aorta, descending, ascending, porcelain, arch, bronchus, lung, pulmonary, trunk, arteries, great, vessels, calcification, ribs, chest
Calcification of the thoracic aorta is often associated with valvular and coronary calcification, reflecting an underlying atherosclerotic process. It has been found to be associated with an increased rate of mortality and cardiovascular disease. Porcelain aorta (PA) is extensive calcification of the ascending aorta or aortic arch that can be completely or near completely circumferential. This entity is rare in the general population, but it has an increasing incidence in older patients and in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) or aortic stenosis (AS). The clinical relevance is based on the fact that it can complicate surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for the treatment of severe AS by preventing safe access via the ascending aorta. PA is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, especially as a result of increased perioperative stroke risk. Recently, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as a less invasive and feasible treatment option in patients at high risk for conventional SAVR. In some series, ≈20% (5%–33%) of patients undergoing TAVR were diagnosed with PA. Inconsistencies in the definition and the use of different diagnostic modalities contribute to this wide range of PA prevalence. We reviewed the available published data to seek a consistent, clinically relevant definition based on contemporary imaging, a firm understanding of the pathogenesis and associations, and the clinical implications of this disease entity.
