Job Duties

The incumbent will serve as the technological lead for designing, implementing, and maintaining a 3D segmentation workflow as well as utilize web-based databases and computer interfaces in a fast-paced and innovative clinical and research environment. The incumbent will support an array of information systems that facilitate research programs and clinical workflow. S/He will function as an applications-oriented software engineer. S/he will estimate, plan, prioritize and deliver projects on time, and will demonstrate excellent project management. Develop tools and services related to 3D medical printing/manufacturing as well as recommending software and hardware necessary to accomplish this goal. Develop additional infrastructure that supports the workflow from DICOM imaging to 3D printing in different materials. Provide expert advice to Department for decision making on critical 3D printing manufacturing and keep up to date with evolving technical standards and application frameworks. Design, implement, and test web-based teaching applications for attending radiologists, residents and fellows to facilitate physician understanding of 3D manufacturing technology, its applications as it relates to patient care management and treatment decisions, and appropriateness. Implement, maintain and routinely test a 3D printing quality control program. Supervise and mentor other computer-aided design (CAD) staff in the Radiology 3D printing section. Collaborate on medical research projects and scientific publications within the Radiology department as well as the health enterprise as a whole. Develop and update on a routine basis any and all standard operating procedures, tip workflow documents and diagrams or policies.
Ensure competency of new members to the 3D printing team such that quality is consistently reproducible regardless of member. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Medical segmentation experience of at least 3 years, with technical expertise in segmentation of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) images derived from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT) and 3-dimensional ultrasound (US) examinations. Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with minimal supervision. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) 2D/3D, including fusion of CT and MRI data, construction of temporary and permanent support structures for anatomical prints, virtual surgical planning and design of surgical templates and guides. Technical expertise in segmentation image processing. (DICOM images from MRI/ CT/DUS). Knowledge and experience in the use of Mimics and 3-Matic software as well as other segmentation CAD programs ie: 3D Slicer, Meshmixer, Osirix, Blender, etc. Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology. Bachelors degree required, advanced degree (master's or higher) in computer science, Bio-medical engineering or similar preferred.
