The skull (full skull) was segmented using 3DSlicer from a reconstructed CT chest scan without an IV contrast agent and a slice thickness=3.75mm. No smoothing algorithm was applied. The CT scan was from an 80 year old female, 62 inches in height and 135 pounds. .
Dental fillings on a CT scan caused “starbursts” since the x-rays cannot pass through the amalgam fillings. These “starbursts” were carefully removed using the scissors option in the 3DSlicer segment editor. The model is full size. As shown in the photos the full skull model was sliced into two horizontal pieces (while in PrusaSlicer) and then 3D printed. The two halves were fastened together with magnets.
