Skull is seen as two shells

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am working with the skull file Dr. Mike used in his tutorial. I removed the top half of the cranium but noticed that the wall are two thin shells in the mesh file. This is probably why my slicing software wants to fill the skull with supports? My question is how do I cap the edge between the shells while leaving the skull open? am using blender and flashprint so specific advice with this software in mind would be helpful.

Dear olatif2 when in blender, choose edge select and then ALT + LMB/RMB (depending your preferences) and it should select whole edge (tabula externa) than try SHIFT+ALT+LMB/RMB  and select tabula externa and than when both edges are selected pres F and sgould get a facet (closed gap).

Or faster way would be to add a new object (cube), size it up, put it below both edges and boolean operation difference and should get closed edges of the skull but slightly lower model than it would be at first.

What software did you use to cut the model in the first place?

If you use Edit-->Plane Cut in Meshmixer or the EasyClip module in 3DSlicer, it should fill the gap for you with a flat surface.
