3D printable medical file of the bony pelvis, converted from a CT scan DICOM dataset

The pelvis is the lower part of the human trunk. It's bony skeleton is formed of the lowermost part of the vertebral column, the sacro-cocygeal region posteriorly , and the hip bones anteriorly and to the sides. Each hip bone consists of 3 parts, ilium, ischium, and pubis. They are attached to the sacrum posteriorly, connected to each other anteriorly, and joined with the two femurs at the hip joints. They enclose the pelvic cavity with the pelvic floor at the base of it to support the pelvic organs. This is a 3D-printable medical file converted from a CT scan DICOM data set.

3D Printer Ready Human Hyoid Bone

    Methods
3D Medical imaging data was obtained in the .stl format. The hyoid bone was localized from the .stl --sectioned off in the software -- and that part of the anatomy was revised using 3D modeling techniques to be highly adaptable to 3D printing platforms for potential regenerative medicine applications.
    Author and Licensing
This hyoid bone re-topology was performed by Chris Leggett. It is free to use for research purposes, with modifications as needed, and any future clinical purposes with standard citation practices for using this material and under the creative commons attribution license.

    • Here is an article on the benefits of using 3D printed temporal bones for surgical training   https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6703115/
    • Valchanov,   I downloaded the file and took a look. I see right ventricular hypertrophy, a large VSD, pulmonary valve atresia/stenosis and an overriding aorta that is also on the right side. I think this is Tetrology of Fallot. It is a cool scan! Dr. Mike
    • Hello Can you give me some background information about the health condition of the patient? The set is excellent, but there is something really wrong with the anatomy of this heart. I want to model it properly.
    • The whole time I was thinking that I'm doing something wrong, because it's impossible for a TAAA to be that big. This was beyond everything I ever saw for 22 years of medical education and experience. But yes, it's THAT big. I segmented the lumen, I added 2 cm margin around it to create a hollow shell, then I added the media of the aneurysmic sack and all the atherosclerotic plaques for extra realism. There was a part of the sack, which went into one of the perihepatic space, but I removed it, b

The benefits of creating three-dimensional models to practice thoracic surgeries was recently highlighted in the Journal of Thoracic Disease in an article titled "Multi-dimensional printing in thoracic surgery: current and future applications."    https://www.embodi3d.com/blogs/entry/409-create-a-3d-printed-rib-cage-and-thorax-from-stl-files/
    • 3D printing is a technology that is constantly evolving, especially among medical professionals who are converting medical CT scans into 3D-printed anatomical models. Patient-specific models with anatomical fidelity created from imaging dataset have the potential to significantly improve the knowledge and skills of a new generation of surgeons. In terms of research and education, 3D-printed anatomical models have proven to be a major benefit in helping students and researchers gain first-hand knowledge of specific conditions and the human anatomy. • We'd like to share some of the best medical 3D printing models, as well as a few detailed examples that garnered the attention of embodi3D® users. 3D-printable STL files like these are helping physicians and medical students to further their understanding of complex diagnoses and treatments — and your contributions are a big part of embodi3D's continued success.   https://www.embodi3d.com/blogs/entry/394-great-3d-medical-printing-files-recently-shared-on-embodi3d®/
    • Medical 3D printing can be used to create centimeter- to sub-millimeter-accurate models. These include the hearts, lungs, kidney, and colon featured in this week's Top Ten, but can be used to create just about any type of 3D organ or tissue model.
