Temporal Bone Left
By Nicola
This is a .stl file of a left temporal bone ready for 3d printing.
I have segmented a CT scan paying attention to all the important bony structures of the ear.
In the .stl screenshots you can see the mastoid, malleus, incus, the bony canal of the facial nerve, the stylomastoid foramen Etc.
I do this for my training and the idea is to perform a mastoidectomy just in my desktop
i have printed my personal 3d plaster model (you can see in the screenshots) but i haven't the courage to destroy it with the drill.....
I hope that my work can be of help to anyone who wants to try to drill a faithful model of temporal bone at home or simply want to study the anatomy in a versatile 3d .stl Model
Good Job

Left Bony Labyrinth
By Nicola
This file is a micro segmentation of bony labyrinth taken from a CT scan. I paid particular attention to the vestibule bone with its 2 windows, the cochlea and the semicircular canals. To exhibit all bony labyrinth I eliminated the middle ear structures, but I kept the hammer, the incus and the facial nerve canal. you can observe the course of the facial nerve canal in its three portions with two knees and with his natural dehiscences.
I also left in place the internal auditory canal and the internal auditory meatus where are visible the facial cochlear and vestibular nerves openings with the bony eminences that separate them (Bill's Bar, Crista falciformis).
You can open the file with any program for managing files .stl and navigate in three dimensions between or within the bony structures (I do with the program called Preview in Mac) to facilitate the study of these complex structures. I added screenshots which shows the most important structures.
The file is already ready to be printed and does not need cleaning.
The dimensions are X: 21.3 mm, Y: 16.4 mm, Z: 16.4 mm (2x1.6x1.6 cm).
You can easily increase the size if you want to print a solid model of the inner ear
P.S. I spent many hours to this work and would like to have your opinions and suggestions on where to improve. I provide for those who want the file at different stages of processing

Male skull from CT scan
This object was converted from a CT DICOM dataset of a male skull.
The CT slice width was 1 mm (which is quite crude compared to today's scanners) and there were 245 slices in total.
Although most of the orphaned pieces have been removed (for printing) using Meshlab the internal structure is still very complex. The vertex count was reduced for simplification but no smoothing was applied to the surface. Some bony artefact holes were filled but on the whole the structure is as per the CT scan.
Once again, thank you to Dr Mike for the excellent renders and

Full size skull base in two parts for Formlabs printers
By Dr. Mike
This full-size skull base was created from a CT scan and formatted for printing on Formlabs printers. The model clearly shows the anatomy of the skull base, including the foramina (holes) that allow the cranial nerves and blood vessels to enter the skull. Great as an educational tool for teaching anatomy. The two halves have notches which makes fitting them together easy.
The files are in the .form file format, and are readable by Formlabs native PreForm software, which works on the Form1, Form1+, and Form2 printers. There are two files: right and left. The left model has a build volume of 179 mL, and the right 138 mL, for a total volume of 317 mL. The pictures show the two parts after printing and after they have been cleaned.

Skull Repair
By dwpemberton
This is an STL file of Skull that has been repaired. The original Dicom data was from the Osirix image database (Phenix). I exported the STL file from the CT scan and post processed it in Meshmixer to correct the mesh defects. The original file was 115 mb with over 500,000 faces. I imported the STL file into Blender and used the decimation function to reduce the number of faces to less than 100,000. This file is free to use as long as credit for the original data is referenced back to Osirix.
